Gwangyang-si, Additional Support for Electric Vehicle Subsidies

Gwangyang-si, Additional Support for Electric Vehicle Subsidies

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City is launching the ‘Second Half Electric Vehicle Subsidy Additional Support Project’ this year to reduce fine dust and realize a low-carbon green city.

The supported vehicles include 109 electric passenger cars (including ultra-small) and 94 electric cargo vehicles (small), with beneficiaries selected in order of delivery registration. The subsidy amounts are up to 16.6 million KRW per electric passenger car, 8.4 million KRW for ultra-small electric cars, and 26.4 million KRW for small electric cargo vehicles.

Eligible vehicle models can be checked on the Ministry of Environment’s electric vehicle charging station website, and applications can be made through the electric vehicle manufacturer, dealer, or sales office where the purchase is intended.

Support targets are citizens aged 18 or older with an address in Gwangyang City, and corporations or companies within the jurisdiction. Individuals can receive support for one vehicle, while corporations or companies can receive support for up to three vehicles.

Recipients of the subsidy are required to operate the vehicle for two years and must return the battery to the city when the vehicle is scrapped.

Son Jang-il, head of the Climate Environment Team, said, “This support project actively reflects the demand for electric vehicle purchases, allowing the replacement of internal combustion engine vehicles with eco-friendly electric vehicles, which reduces maintenance costs as well as air pollutant emissions,” and added, “We hope for active interest and participation from citizens in the electric vehicle purchase subsidy support project.”
