Dongseo University Hosts 2020 Disabled Media Festival ... Communication and Empathy Between Disabled and Non-Disabled

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) and Busan Viewer Media Center are hosting the ‘2020 Disabled Media Festival,’ a festival of communication and empathy where people with and without disabilities can communicate and enjoy together, from the 9th to the 11th.

This festival consists of various programs such as a Disabled Media Open Talk Show, Barrier-Free Musical, and Barrier-Free Independent Film Screening.

All events will be live-streamed online considering COVID-19 social distancing measures.

The opening ceremony will begin with the ‘Disabled Media Open Talk Show’ at 1 PM on the 9th.

During the Open Talk Show, there will be a time to recognize the social gap between people with and without disabilities. In particular, various topics such as media accessibility for the visually impaired and accessibility to culture and arts through audio-described films will be freely discussed without being bound by any format.

On the following day, the 10th, at 2 PM, the barrier-free musical concert ‘PASSION’ will be held.

Musical actor and Dongseo University Musical Department professor Oh Se-jun directed and produced the concert. The barrier-free musical concert ‘PASSION’ presents famous scenes from well-known musicals as a single performance.

Subtitles, sign language, and scene descriptions will be provided so that people with visual and hearing impairments can enjoy it together.

On the last day, the 11th, barrier-free independent films produced by Dongseo University film students will be screened. A total of four works will be presented, all of which will be shown as barrier-free films with audio descriptions and subtitles.

Additionally, there will be experiences such as the ‘Cinema in the Dark’ where a movie theater is recreated in a darkroom to provide a movie-watching experience in complete darkness, disability broadcasting policy promotion, and a ‘Disability-Friendly Product Exhibition’ showcasing disability-friendly masks produced by Dongseo University Fashion Design Department students.

Kim Hyung-woo, head of Dongseo University Regional Cooperation Center, said, “It is unfortunate to hold the opening ceremony online due to the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, but I hope this crisis caused by COVID-19 will become an opportunity to spread new approaches to barrier-free related projects.” He added, “We will continue to strive to lead disabled culture and arts and to discover and expand community contribution programs.”

Anyone can watch live on the Busan Viewer Media Center YouTube channel.
