According to local broadcast tallies as of 7:30 PM on the 5th, 2,497 new COVID-19 infections were reported across Japan. The cumulative number of confirmed cases stands at 161,618.

Meanwhile, recent daily case counts in Japan were 2,028 on the 1st, 2,434 on the 2nd, 2,518 on the 3rd, and 2,442 the previous day. On this day, Tokyo, the capital of Japan, confirmed 584 new COVID-19 cases, marking the highest number of daily infections recorded.
