[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rapidly spreads, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul has surpassed the "1 per 1,000 population" threshold.
According to Seoul City on the 5th, as of midnight that day, the number of confirmed cases in Seoul was 9,951, exceeding 0.1% of Seoul's total population (as of the end of June) of 9,720,846.
In terms of incidence rate per 100,000 people, it was 102.4, with Seocho-gu (124.7) having the highest rate, followed by Gwanak-gu (118.5), Gangseo-gu (116.5), Seongbuk-gu (112.9), and Yongsan-gu (111.1). Areas with relatively low incidence rates, indicating comparatively better quarantine situations, included Geumcheon-gu (59.4), Gwangjin-gu (60.6), Gangdong-gu (66.7), Gangbuk-gu (69.0), and Guro-gu (73.3). However, the number of newly confirmed patients in Seoul on the 4th was 235, which was lower than the record-high numbers set consecutively on the 2nd (262) and 3rd (295).
By cluster groups, new confirmed cases were reported at 'Jongno-gu Pagoda Town' (22), 'Dongdaemun-gu Hospital' (5), 'Guro-gu Insurance Company' (6), 'Gangseo-gu Dance Training Facility' (5), and a related 'Gangseo-gu Hospital' (3). Additionally, new cases were confirmed related to 'Yeongdeungpo-gu Call Center' (4), 'Gangseo-gu Hospital (November)' (4), 'Seocho-gu Sauna' (4), 'Gangnam-gu Acting Academy' (3), and 'Songpa-gu Table Tennis Club' (3).
Among the new patients in Seoul, 54 cases are under investigation due to unclear infection routes. Meanwhile, as of midnight on the 5th, out of the cumulative 9,951 confirmed cases in Seoul, 100 have died, 6,887 have been discharged, and 2,964 are currently isolated and receiving treatment.
