[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center (Director Song Taeyoung) announced on the 4th that it has implemented non-face-to-face programs to minimize the gap in welfare services caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center is conducting personalized teaching materials and tools provision during the closure period due to COVID-19, programs using videos, emotional stability support through welfare check-ins, and physical activities all in a non-face-to-face manner.
They are doing their best to fulfill the role of the welfare center by providing various non-face-to-face services and continuously communicating with users. For participants in the cooking class, they delivered bean sprout growing kits and mushroom cultivation kits to each household so that they could feel interest and participate from observing the growth process to completing the cooking.
They encouraged participation at home in collaboration with family members by reflecting the types of disabilities and the opinions of the disabled individuals and their guardians.
The sign language class allowed repeated viewing of videos by a professional sign language instructor at any time, and the calligraphy class supported calligraphy tools so that each household could practice by looking at the model characters provided by the instructor.
The coach of the intellectually disabled soccer team Gurye Dream FC assigned home training tasks to the players and provided feedback to prevent lack of exercise.
A parent of a non-face-to-face program participant said, “These days, we were spending time idly at home, but it was very good because the materials needed for the program were delivered directly, and we could easily follow along by watching the instructional videos.”
Director Song Taeyoung stated, “Due to the long-term suspension of lifelong education programs caused by the spread of COVID-19, many users have reported feelings of depression due to restricted social activities. We are doing our best to strengthen multifaceted non-face-to-face services centered on the local community.”
