Ministry of Economy and Finance Holds Online Discussion with Budget Citizen Participation Group

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that it will hold an online participation event for the Budget National Participation Group for six days from the 5th to the 12th. The event will exchange opinions on the role of finance desired by the public.

Earlier, the Ministry selected 22 topics through an online discussion process on fiscal issues via the Participatory Budget website over the past two months.

This discussion forum was prepared to expand the role of the participation group, which was mainly focused on preference voting, to the project stage and to strengthen the collection of public opinions on government projects. It also aims to listen to voices from the field regarding social changes caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Kang Seungjun, Director of Fiscal Management at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, said, "Participatory budgeting aims to realize transparency and democracy in fiscal management through communication between the public and the government," adding, "I believe that the wisdom of the people is a precious treasure that protects national finances." He continued, "I hope that the unique and diverse ideas of the Budget National Participation Group will develop into a single participatory budget project through the discussion process."
