[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced that it has been selected as an excellent management institution in this year’s ‘National Public Wastewater Treatment Facility Operation and Management Performance Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of Environment.
As a result of this selection, Gwangyang City will receive a prize money of 5 million won and will be given priority in receiving national funding for the advance payment of new public wastewater treatment facility installation projects and continuing project budgets for 2022.
The Ministry of Environment conducts an annual evaluation of the operation and management of public wastewater treatment facilities to encourage healthy competition among local governments and to promote voluntary operational efficiency.
The evaluation targets are public wastewater treatment facilities under Article 48, Paragraph 2 of the Water Environment Conservation Act, totaling 215 facilities that have been completed for more than one year as of last year. A total of 26 items, including wastewater inflow rate, were evaluated.
Gwangyang City was selected as an A grade within the top 20% in the facility-specific evaluation and ranked 3rd among 25 institutions in Group II (2,500 to less than 10,000 tons/day) in the local government evaluation. It was highly praised for continuously investing budgets and promoting improvement projects, such as renovating facilities that received a D grade in the 2017 evaluation.
Mayor Jeong Hyun-bok of Gwangyang City said, “This excellent institution selection is the result of the active cooperation of companies in the industrial complex and the efforts of employees who did their best despite harsh working conditions,” adding, “It is expected to have a positive impact not only on population inflow by improving residents’ living conditions but also on attracting companies due to the development of the industrial complex.”
