[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Democratic Party lawmaker Woo Sang-ho analyzed that the historic low approval ratings of President Moon Jae-in and the Democratic Party are "a sign of dissatisfaction with the conflict between Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl."
On the 4th, Woo appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "The public's fatigue has greatly intensified."
Woo said, "This dissatisfaction from the public does not manifest only on one side," adding, "The centrist group's fatigue means they want it to stop now, and the progressive supporters are dissatisfied with the slow resolution."
He continued, "Overall, this is an expression of dissatisfaction, and once the situation changes, approval ratings will recover to some extent."
Regarding Prosecutor General Yoon, Woo pointed out, "Whether Yoon restores his honor or faces disciplinary action, it is clear that he can no longer continue with our administration," and asked, "Can he properly fulfill his duties as Prosecutor General?"
He added, "From that perspective, regardless of the procedures or process, I believe the time has come for Yoon to make a decision himself," and argued, "The best way would be to voluntarily resign before the disciplinary committee convenes, which would be the most honorable method."
He also criticized, "After all, Yoon was appointed by the president and rose to the position of Prosecutor General," and said, "Now he is becoming a burden to the president, only focusing on the conflict with the Justice Minister right in front of him, without seeing the difficulties faced by the country and the president."
Regarding Minister Choo, he said, "I feel her sincerity and respect her efforts for prosecutorial reform," but urged, "If the president has instructed to proceed steadily while securing procedural fairness and legitimacy, then she needs to refrain from personal expressions of opinion."
Meanwhile, a poll conducted by Realmeter, a professional polling agency, commissioned by TBS from the 30th of last month to the 2nd of this month, surveyed 1,508 voters nationwide. The results showed President Moon's positive evaluation of his administration at 37.4% and negative evaluation at 57.3%. This is the first time since the current government took office that approval ratings have fallen below 40% in a Realmeter survey.
