[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] In Seoul, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) surged by nearly 300 in one day, marking the highest number since the first confirmed case in January.


As of midnight on the 4th, Seoul city announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Seoul area increased by 295 from the previous day, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 9,716.


The daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul first exceeded 200 on the 25th of last month, reaching 212, then decreased to 204 on the 26th, 178 on the 27th, 58 on the 28th, 159 on the 29th, and 155 on the 30th. However, it rose again to 193 on the 1st of this month, 262 on the 2nd, and surged again to 295 on the 3rd.


On this day alone, 24 cases were confirmed related to Pagoda Town in Jongno-gu, increasing the total related confirmed cases to 29. The health authorities requested that visitors to Pagoda Town (Nakwon-dong), Saemmul Singing Classroom (Gwancheol-dong), and Sessibong Bin 7080 Live (Gwancheol-dong) in Jongno-gu between the 20th and 30th of last month promptly visit the nearest public health center screening clinic for testing.


At the Yeongdeungpo-gu call center (cumulative 18 cases) and a hospital in Jungnang-gu (cumulative 12 cases), 17 and 10 new confirmed cases were identified respectively. Additionally, 5 new cases were confirmed related to a restaurant in Gwanak-gu (cumulative 20 cases) and a hospital in Gangseo-gu (cumulative 39 cases). Confirmed cases continued to emerge at the Gangseo-gu dance training facility (cumulative 182 cases), Jungnang-gu indoor sports facility II (cumulative 36 cases), Korea University band club (cumulative 13 cases), and Gangnam-gu language institute II (cumulative 11 cases).


In Seoul, two confirmed patients in their 70s and 80s died during treatment the previous day, increasing the cumulative death toll to 97.


So far, 6,774 people have been declared recovered and discharged, while 2,845 remain in isolation. The number of people in self-quarantine due to entry from overseas or contact with confirmed cases is counted at 20,889.
