Samsung Electronics 'One UI 3' Update... Camera Improvements and Digital Wellbeing App Added

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' latest flagship smartphone user interface (UI) has been updated. Users can now play music and check schedules without unlocking the device, camera zoom and focus functions have been improved, and an automatic exposure feature has been added. A digital wellbeing app that monitors smartphone usage habits is also provided.

On the 4th, Samsung Electronics began rolling out the 'One UI 3' version update starting with the Galaxy S20 series in South Korea, the United States, and some European countries. The update will be expanded to include devices such as the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Z Fold2.

Based on the latest mobile operating system Android 11, 'One UI 3' offers a more streamlined and sophisticated design, convenient features, and personalized functions. Important information is highlighted on the home screen, lock screen, and notification panel. A visual effect that blurs the background on the notification screen has been applied, and widget designs have been improved to make the home screen cleaner.

Convenience features have been added to enable more tasks in daily life. Users can control the music player or check schedules from lock screen widgets without unlocking the smartphone. Notifications from messaging apps are grouped and displayed at the top of the quick panel, making it easier to check and reply to conversations. Video calls are supported in full screen, allowing users to see the other party more closely during communication.

The smartphone camera has also been enhanced. AI-based zoom and autofocus functions have been improved, and automatic exposure support allows for better photo results. Searching for desired images in the gallery has become much easier. Haptic feedback when operating the smartphone has become more natural. Smooth motion effects, animations, and button touch experiences now have added depth.

Features that can be customized according to user preferences have also been expanded. When sharing images, videos, or documents via messages or email, frequently shared contacts can be designated on the share panel. It is now possible to set desired content such as photos or videos when making or receiving calls.

A new digital wellbeing app that helps users understand and improve their smartphone usage habits is also provided. It shows weekly usage time changes and usage status while driving, helping users find proper smartphone usage patterns.

Not Jae-moon, President of Samsung Electronics' Wireless Business Division, said, "'One UI 3' update marks the beginning of our commitment to introducing the latest operating system to Galaxy users and providing the best mobile experience." He added, "'One UI 3' demonstrates Samsung Electronics' role in continuously creating innovative and intuitive experiences for consumers throughout the mobile device lifecycle."

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics announced last August that it will expand Android OS upgrades for Galaxy mobile devices up to three times. All future Galaxy flagship models, some A series, and Galaxy Tab S series will support three generations of Android OS upgrades. For example, the Galaxy S20, released in February with Android 10, will support a total of three Android OS upgrades starting with Android 11.
