On Suneung Day, 43 New COVID-19 Cases Among Students and 10 Staff Members... Total 1,703 Cases On the 3rd, the day of the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test, a separate testing site was set up at Gyeongbok High School in Jongno-gu, Seoul for examinees showing suspected COVID-19 symptoms.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 3rd, the day the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) was held, 43 students were confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


The Ministry of Education announced that a total of 49 new student cases were confirmed on that day, bringing the cumulative total to 1,430. This number includes 43 students confirmed positive as of midnight on the 3rd, plus 6 cases from the 1st that were previously unreported. Among school staff, 10 were confirmed positive, totaling 273 cases.


As of 10 a.m. on the same day, 203 schools had adjusted their in-person class schedules. Schools that switched to remote classes in preparation for the CSAT were not included. This is an increase of 22 schools compared to the previous day.


In universities, from the 25th of last month to the 1st of this month, 143 students were confirmed positive. Among staff, there were 20 cases.


The number of universities operating fully remote classes increased by 22, totaling 52 schools: 31 four-year universities and 21 junior colleges. Universities plan to conduct a mix of in-person and remote classes during social distancing levels 1 and 2, and switch to fully remote classes at level 3.
