High Praise for 'Climate Change Response 2020 Comprehensive Plan Implementation,' 'Geumcheon Eco Center Operation,' and 'Resident Efforts'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) received the 'Prime Minister's Commendation' in the 'Low Carbon Life Practice' category at the '2020 Government Awards for Promotion of Eco-friendly Technology and Consumption' ceremony held at the Korea Press Center on the 2nd.
The 'Government Awards for Promotion of Eco-friendly Technology and Consumption' is an award presented by the Ministry of Environment to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the development of eco-friendly technology, production, distribution, consumption, industry of eco-friendly products, and the practice of low carbon living.
The district earned high marks in the low carbon life practice category through ▲ successful implementation of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan for Climate Change Response ▲ operation of the climate and environmental education program ‘Nice to meet you! Geumcheon Eco Classroom’ ▲ designation and management of the nation’s first fine dust intensive management zone ▲ G-Valley project to reduce living odor (a model case of public-private cooperation) ▲ improvement of green product purchase rates.
In addition, it received favorable evaluations in the areas of ‘promotion of the Geumcheon-type Eco Mileage System,’ ‘efforts of local residents to reduce greenhouse gases,’ and ‘challenging internal and external projects,’ earning the honor of the Prime Minister's Commendation.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “This award was made possible by the interest and cooperation of the residents who worked hard to create a sustainable environmental city, Geumcheon,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a ‘Low Carbon Life Practice City’ and a ‘Happy Neighborhood City Geumcheon’ together with the residents.”
