[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A bundle of cash was found in the yard of the defendant's house, who is accused of murdering a woman with an intellectual disability. The prosecution confirmed that the defendant had extorted this money from the victim and additionally indicted him on charges of quasi-fraud.

According to the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Gimcheon Branch on the 2nd, the defendant A (59) was arrested and indicted on charges of murdering and abandoning the body of B (56), a Mongolian woman with an intellectual disability and his lover, and was sentenced to 30 years in the first trial on September 1st.

A, a former taxi driver, strangled B, with whom he had been in a relationship for about 19 months, to death in January and took about 20 million won in cash. B's body was buried in a nearby field.

When the prosecution arrested and indicted A in March, they found two bundles of cash worth about 20 million won and 60 million won buried in his yard.

The 20 million won was confirmed to be money B had withdrawn from the bank and was handed over to A's family.

After investigating the source of the 60 million won, the prosecution found that A deceived B by saying "I will manage the money" and received over 75 million won, of which 15 million won was spent and the rest was buried in the yard.

Meanwhile, B was reported in the media in 2016 as a victim of a "modern-day slave," having worked on a farm for 14 years without receiving wages. Later, she received 150 million won in civil compensation, half of which was given to A.
