[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has expanded the Healing Starlight Street, created in Gangpul Manhwa Street, to the back roads densely populated with shops in Jjukkumi Alley (around Cheonho Old 14-gil).
Gangpul Manhwa Street is an alley densely packed with old houses around 168-gil, Cheonho-daero, Seongnae-dong, and is an improved 'comic-specialized street' featuring about 50 mural paintings of iconic scenes from Gangpul Manhwa.
This area was selected as a target for the Seoul City 2020 Landscape Improvement Project last year, and Gangdong-gu began the full-scale project in January this year. By next year, it plans to transform the alley into a place where "my living space becomes art and my everyday space becomes culture."
In line with this change, Gangdong-gu created 'Seongan Byeolgil' within Gangpul Manhwa Street in July this year.
Following requests from small business owners in the nearby Jjukkumi Alley, string lights were extended and installed along the 200m section of the back road densely populated with shops from Gangpul Manhwa Street to Lotte Cinema, creating an emotional street sparkling with starlight.
The second phase of 'Seongan Byeolgil' departed from the general bulb type of the first phase by specially producing star-shaped object bulbs that change into various colors, designed to comfort the minds and bodies of residents exhausted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "This expansion project of 'Seongan Byeolgil' is especially meaningful as a relay project based on the ideas and cooperation of local residents. We will continue to develop such public-private collaboration projects and strive to realize effective urban landscape projects that satisfy residents."
