UK Approves Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for Use... World's First

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 2nd (local time), the UK government became the first in the world to approve the use of Pfizer's novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine.

The UK government stated, "The government has accepted the recommendation from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to approve the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine," adding, "It will be available throughout the UK starting next week."

Earlier, the UK had pre-ordered 30 million doses of the vaccine from Pfizer in July.

Ugur Sahin, CEO of BioNTech, said, "We believe that the launch of the vaccination program in the UK will help reduce the number of high-risk individuals."
