34 New COVID-19 Cases Among Students... "Health Centers Open Until 10 PM the Day Before Suneung" On the afternoon of the 1st, two days before the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test, medical staff were working in the COVID-19 situation room at Seoul Medical Center in Jungnang-gu, Seoul. This space is scheduled to be used as the comprehensive situation room for the exam day. [Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the day before the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), more than 30 students were newly diagnosed with COVID-19.


According to the Ministry of Education on the 2nd, as of midnight, the number of confirmed student cases increased by 34. Including 7 cases omitted on the 30th, a total of 1,381 students tested positive. The number of confirmed staff cases increased by 4, totaling 263.


The number of schools that adjusted in-person classes was 181 across 12 metropolitan cities and provinces, a decrease of 94 schools compared to the previous day. By region, there were 62 schools in Chungbuk, 42 in Seoul, and 32 in Jeonnam. Schools that switched to remote classes in preparation for the CSAT were not included.


COVID-19 testing for examinees on the day before the CSAT is available at public health centers until 10 PM. If a student tests positive before the exam, they will be assigned to a hospital or a residential treatment center to take the test. The Ministry of Education secured hospitals and treatment centers with a capacity of 205 to allow confirmed examinees to take the exam. Additionally, 583 separate testing rooms for self-quarantined examinees can accommodate 3,775 students.
