'Partial Strike' Korea GM, 21,384 Units Sold in November... 45.6% Decrease YoY

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Korea GM sold a total of 21,384 units (6,556 domestic sales, 14,828 exports) in November. This represents a 45.6% decrease compared to the same period last year due to production disruptions caused by recent labor union strikes.

On the 1st, Korea GM announced that domestic sales in November were 6,556 units, down 10.5% from 7,323 units in the same period last year. This is also a 7.2% decrease compared to 7,064 units in October.

Exports totaled 14,828 units, a 53.7% decrease compared to 31,994 units in the same period last year, and a 39% decrease compared to 24,327 units in October.

Specifically, the Chevrolet Spark led Korea GM’s domestic sales performance with a total of 1,987 units sold in the domestic market in November. The Chevrolet Trailblazer followed with 1,325 units sold.

Additionally, the Damas and Labo, which have served as essential vehicles for small business owners for over 30 years, showed significant growth with sales increasing by 68.2% and 48.5% respectively compared to the same month last year, with 439 and 508 units sold. With production scheduled to end in the first quarter of next year, Damas and Labo are offering various benefits such as cash discounts and long-term installment plans of up to 72 months.

The Chevrolet Traverse and Colorado sold 312 and 604 units respectively. In particular, the Colorado solidified its position as a genuine American pickup truck by recording a 28.0% increase compared to the same month last year, thanks to the highly praised 2021 model ‘Real New Colorado’ featuring a premium exterior design and off-roader sensibility.

Caesar Toledo, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing at Korea GM, stated, “Despite the resurgence of COVID-19, Chevrolet’s representative vehicles such as the Spark, Trailblazer, and Colorado continue to receive steady support from customers,” adding, “We hope to finish this year well by leveraging the highest level of promotions in December and the year-end sales momentum.”
