[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk announced on the 1st that, thanks to the completion of the Geunnam Water Purification Center last year, it is significantly expanding the local water supply area and actively promoting public sewage installation projects.
With the completion of the Geunnam Water Purification Center in March last year, Uljin-gun was able to produce an additional 15,000 tons of local water supply, which had been insufficient. In connection with this, water supply was started to about 1,294 households in 16 villages, including Buguri.
This year, with a total project cost of 17.9 billion KRW including national and provincial funds, the county is replacing aging pipelines over 30 years old in the Uljin, Pyeonghae, Jukbyeon, and Hupo areas, while also expanding the water supply areas in five districts including Geomseong-ri, Buk-myeon.
For the public sewage installation project, about 7 billion KRW in project funds have been secured, and two public sewage treatment facility expansions along with five village-level sewage treatment plants have been installed. Additionally, in July, the expansion project of the Buk-myeon public sewage treatment facility was completed, and the Hadang and Sadong village sewage projects are also being promoted with a goal of completion next year.
Upon completion of the ongoing projects, the water supply coverage rate will increase from 74% to 88%, and the sewage coverage rate will rise from 72% to about 76%. Uljin-gun explained that the inconvenience to residents caused by water quality deterioration and water shortage in village areas using valley water or groundwater as water sources will soon be resolved.
Son Byung-su, head of Uljin-gun Clean Water Project Office, stated, "We will thoroughly carry out water and sewage projects step-by-step according to the mid- to long-term plan to create a safe tap water supply and a breathing land and spacious sea Uljin."
