[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 1st that it conducted a special inspection of power facilities at 1,352 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) sites nationwide, in cooperation with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and other COVID-19 response organizations. From today until February 28 next year, the period is designated as the "Winter Stable Power Supply Promotion Period," during which special power facility operation measures will be established and implemented.

First, a special inspection of power supply facilities at COVID-19 response agencies such as the Disease Control Agency will be carried out. Previously, on the 25th of last month, KEPCO completed inspections of the Disease Control Agency's facilities and supported internal electrical facility diagnostics. Starting today, special inspections and reinforcements of power supply facilities at public relief hospitals and screening clinics will be conducted. A patrol team will be operated continuously to provide rapid restoration support in case of emergencies.

KEPCO has also set a goal of "flawless power supply" at this year’s CSAT test sites. Since the CSAT will be held on the 3rd, KEPCO has conducted special safety inspections of multi-power source configurations and electrical facilities at 1,352 test sites across 86 test districts since the 10th of last month. A KEPCO official stated, "We plan to operate a power securing situation room on the test day to ensure flawless power supply."

To prevent the expansion of power outage damage during winter, a comprehensive inspection of power ducts will be conducted. Measures will be taken to relieve overloads in preparation for increased heating loads in winter and to prevent cold damage. Continuous inspections and reinforcements will be carried out on transformers and other equipment in multi-use facilities. An emergency situation room will be operated to prepare for disasters such as heavy snowfall.
