[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Sports Ethics Center and the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 30th to prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence in the sports sector and to support victims.

The two organizations agreed to mutually cooperate in ▲ establishing a cooperative relationship for counseling, reporting, and victim support ▲ protective measures for victims ▲ support for victims including counseling, medical, and legal assistance ▲ strict investigation and follow-up management of sexual harassment and sexual violence in sports.

Lee Suk-jin, Director of the Sports Ethics Center, said, "Since its launch, the Sports Ethics Center has been doing its best to improve human rights in the sports sector and to protect and support victims and reporters. Through this MOU with the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute, we will continue to strive to prevent (sexual) violence among sportspeople and protect victims."

Park Bong-jung-sook, President of the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute, stated, "Sexual violence within organizations tends to be concealed or minimized due to hierarchical structures, and given the strong apprenticeship-style workforce training system in the sports sector, victims find it even more difficult to raise their voices. We will share the experience accumulated over a long time in improving women's human rights and supporting victims of sexual harassment and sexual violence with the Center to contribute to the prevention of sexual harassment and sexual violence in sports and support for victims."

Meanwhile, Park Yang-woo, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Lee Jung-ok, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, attended the MOU signing ceremony on the same day to encourage the two organizations and expressed their commitment as government ministries to actively support the improvement of human rights in the sports sector and the protection of victims.
