Musical 'Cats' Encore at Sejong Center in January · Opening at Busan Dream Theater in March Musical 'Cats' performance scene

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The musical "Cats" will continue its 40th-anniversary performances at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in January next year and at the Busan Dream Theater in March, following shows in Seoul and Daegu.


The promotional agency Clip Service announced on the 30th that the 40th-anniversary tour of "Cats" in Korea is confirmed to open on January 22 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul and on March 3 at the Busan Dream Theater. The 40th-anniversary performances are currently running at the Charlotte Theater in Seoul. After concluding the Charlotte Theater shows on December 6, the musical will be performed at the Keimyung Art Center in Daegu from December 11 until January 9 next year. After the Daegu performances, the show will return for an encore in Seoul at the Sejong Center and then proceed to Busan, completing a tour of three cities.


The Sejong Center performances of "Cats" mark the third time the musical has been staged there, following runs in 2015 and 2018. The Sejong Center Grand Theater shows will run for five weeks from January 22 to February 26. Ticket reservations for the Sejong Center encore performances will begin in December. After the Sejong Center run, the musical will continue at the Dream Theater from March 3 to April 4 for one month.


"Cats" is a representative work of musical maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber and the first musical in Korean history to surpass 2 million cumulative audience members. It has won prestigious international awards such as the Olivier Award, Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Grammy Award. The musical delivers a moving and profound message about life through the diverse lives of the Jellicle cats.


The 40th-anniversary tour of "Cats" in Korea is being conducted under strict COVID-19 prevention measures, including socially distanced seating, mandatory mask-wearing in the venue and audience seats, health questionnaires, and temperature monitoring upon entry.
