Gwangju Nam-gu to Strengthen Crackdown on Illegal Parking in School Zones Until January Next Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 30th that it will strengthen special crackdowns on illegal parking and stopping until January next year to prevent child traffic accidents within school zones.

The plan is to conduct focused crackdowns during school commuting hours to eradicate illegal parking and stopping that threaten children's traffic safety.

Since the 24th, Nam-gu has been conducting special crackdowns on illegal parking and stopping around school zones in front of elementary schools in the district in cooperation with the Nambu Police Station.

To eliminate illegal parking and stopping within school zones, two traffic patrol teams have been organized to conduct regular crackdowns in school zones in front of elementary schools in the district.

In particular, to catch unscrupulous drivers who repeatedly engage in illegal parking and stopping by avoiding crackdown hours, a cooperative system has been established with the Green Mothers' Association and the Model Drivers' Association, strengthening activities to take photos on-site and immediately report through the Safe Newspaper app.

Along with this, mobile cameras and camcorders are being used within school zones to crack down on speeding and actions that threaten pedestrians.

A Nam-gu official said, "This special crackdown aims to create a safe commuting environment for children and eradicate the wrong culture of illegal parking and stopping," adding, "We ask for the active participation of drivers so that a safe traffic environment can be established."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that there are a total of 76 school zones installed in Nam-gu, including 23 in front of elementary schools, 35 kindergartens, 17 daycare centers, and 1 special school.
