[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics will unveil a new wireless earphone, the 'Galaxy Buds Pro,' equipped with active noise canceling (ANC) functionality early next year.

On the 29th (local time), according to IT media SamMobile and others, Samsung Electronics has obtained certification for a new wireless earphone model SM-R190 from Indonesian and Chinese regulatory authorities. It is a successor to the Galaxy Buds Plus (R-175) and Galaxy Buds Live (R-180).

Previously, there was speculation that Samsung would launch a new wireless earphone brand after registering the trademark 'Galaxy Buds Beyond' in the United States, but it appears the product will be released under the model name 'Pro.'

The Galaxy Buds Pro will be unveiled at the January unpacked event next year and released alongside the Galaxy S21. The new wireless earphones are a successor to the Galaxy Buds Plus, featuring a design similar to the Galaxy Buds Plus. The case houses a 472mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Galaxy Buds Live. The Galaxy Buds Plus case battery capacity is 270mAh.

The Galaxy Buds Pro will be released as an in-ear type equipped with active noise canceling (ANC) functionality. Although ANC is included, it is expected that the ANC function will be significantly improved compared to the open-type Galaxy Buds Live. The latency from the signal transmitted by the device to the sound conversion in the earphones is also expected to be reduced.

SamMobile explained, "The sound quality of the Galaxy Buds Pro will be improved, and latency will be reduced," adding, "The external noise recognition function is also expected to be enhanced." While the addition of ANC will slightly increase the price, it is likely to be at a level similar to the Galaxy Buds Live. Samsung Electronics ranked third in the wireless earphone market last year, following Apple and Xiaomi. This year, Samsung is accelerating efforts to increase market share by releasing two wireless earphone models.

Meanwhile, according to market research firm Canalys, shipments of wearable devices such as smartwatches and wireless earphones are expected to reach 558.3 million units next year, an increase of more than 120 million units compared to this year (436.5 million units). The wireless earphone market is expected to grow annually by 19.8% through 2024.
