On the 29th, Dong-gu stated in a press release, "Over the past two years, local public opinion as well as the local political circles have reaffirmed the position that boundary adjustment is inevitable for the balanced development of Gwangju City and the resolution of population imbalance," adding, "The mixed public opinion on the moderate adjustment plan honestly reflects that boundary adjustment is necessary, but no one wants to do it at the expense of our own area."
It continued, "As the population increases, the welfare cost burden rises every year, and the number of cultural facilities and libraries available per resident is insufficient," emphasizing, "It is also necessary to improve the efficiency of administrative services."
Furthermore, it said, "Boundary adjustment must be continuously promoted to secure competitiveness among districts in preparation for the era of population decline," and added, "Moreover, boundary adjustment is a timely task that can no longer be postponed to enhance the quality of life in the Gwangju community through new leaps and coexistence among regions."
