"The Responsibility of the First Opposition Party: Must Prevent with Unwavering Action"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized on the 29th, saying, "The Blue House, which always emphasized cooperation and communication whenever it opened its mouth, is now ignoring the reality where the Chief of Staff and the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs have not even blinked for over seven hours while (People Power Party) lawmakers tried to deliver inquiry letters in person," calling it "truly infuriating."
At an emergency video meeting of lawmakers held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Joo said, "We are witnessing the terminal symptoms of a failing regime in many places," adding, "Although it is a dead end and lack of communication, we must continue to strengthen our resolve and work together to prevent the country from descending into lawlessness and anarchy."
Floor Leader Joo sharpened his criticism by saying, "President Moon Jae-in's silence has truly reached an expert level," and "Even when the Minister of Justice turns South Korea into a lawless state in broad daylight, the president remains silent," emphasizing, "The president's silence can only be seen as tacit approval or consent."
Regarding next year's budget and bill processing, Floor Leader Joo stated, "It seems the Democratic Party of Korea is steadily proceeding with discussions for unilateral passage by leveraging their numbers in several standing committees," and "Preparations appear to be underway for forced passage, including the Public Officials Corruption Investigation Unit Act that removes the opposition's veto power, the National Intelligence Service Act and the National Police Agency Act that transfer counterintelligence investigation authority, and the three economic laws."
Floor Leader Joo said, "A critical week seems to be approaching where we must gather wisdom on how to properly fulfill our responsibilities as the main opposition party entrusted by the people, and if necessary, block these moves with unwavering action," adding, "A solemn week has come where we must throw everything and make sacrifices for the democracy and rule of law that the Moon Jae-in administration is recklessly destroying."
