[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Two new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) related to Yeungnam University, located in Gyeongsan City, Gyeongbuk, a university in the Daegu area, were reported on the 27th, followed by six additional cases on the 28th.

Additionally, in Gyeongbuk, one new case each was confirmed in Gyeongsan and Yeongdeok due to secondary infections related to a family gathering of three sisters in Cheongsong and a funeral hall in Yeongdeok, respectively, along with three new cases in Pohang.

According to Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 29th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the region was 1,658, an increase of 11 from the previous day.

At Yeungnam University, where two music college students were confirmed positive on the 27th, six related individuals in Gyeongju were tested and confirmed positive on the 28th. Gyeongbuk Province dispatched a rapid response team to trace the movements of confirmed cases and establish quarantine measures, while Gyeongju City sent out testing guidance messages and is continuously identifying additional contacts through in-depth epidemiological investigations.

The one newly confirmed case in Gyeongsan was identified as related to the family gathering of three sisters that began in Cheongsong on the 14th. The new case was confirmed during a test conducted before the end of self-quarantine related to Cheongdo Farm. As a result, the secondary infections linked to the Cheongsong three sisters family gathering have spread to 30 people in Cheongdo, Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, and Seongju within half a month.

The one newly confirmed case in Yeongdeok was found to be related to the funeral hall infection that occurred on the 17th, according to epidemiological investigation results. The new case was classified as a contact of the cluster of eight confirmed cases at that time and tested positive before the end of self-quarantine.

In Pohang, two people were confirmed positive at a house visited by family members living in Seoul. It is presumed that the infection spread among family members when a confirmed case from Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (case number 295) visited the Pohang residence. Separately, one office worker in Pohang was confirmed positive with an unknown infection route. The infection route of this confirmed case is under investigation.

Kim Jin-hyun, Director of Welfare and Health Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "Unlike the first and second waves of COVID-19, the third wave is mainly characterized by infections occurring in daily life," and urged, "Please refrain from unnecessary outings, gatherings, travel, and meetings, and if you have symptoms such as cough or fever, promptly get tested at a screening clinic."
