[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Los Angeles (LA) County in the United States is issuing a 'stay at home order' to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 27th (local time), major foreign media reported that the LA County Department of Public Health decided to issue a stay at home order starting from the 30th (local time) for three weeks, banning gatherings of residents. Under the stay at home order, 10 million residents of LA County are prohibited from gathering with people outside their families.
The Department of Public Health stated, "The number of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalized patients is increasing to a concerning level," and added, "Immediate action is necessary to stop the spread of COVID-19."
County residents are advised to stay at home as much as possible, and must wear masks when going out to purchase groceries or other necessities.
However, the Department of Public Health decided not to apply the order to church services and assemblies, as these activities are constitutionally protected.
LA County, which has the highest number of cases in California, has a cumulative total of approximately 387,000 confirmed cases and about 7,500 deaths.
