According to a press release posted on the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on the 28th, Minister Wang Yi met with Special Advisor Moon Jung-in in Seoul the previous day and stated, "The world is currently facing changes not seen in a century, and the international situation is accelerating its transformation."
Minister Wang Yi pointed out, "The COVID-19 pandemic has once again demonstrated that humanity shares weal and woe and that the interests of countries are closely interconnected," adding, "Zero-sum thinking fails to solve domestic problems, and unilateralism cannot respond to global challenges."
Minister Wang Yi emphasized, "Attempts to provoke a new Cold War run counter to the flow of historical development," and stressed, "Only by upholding multilateralism and strengthening cooperation can various crises and challenges be overcome."
Regarding this, Special Advisor Moon reportedly said that various sectors in Korea have high expectations for China's economy and the development of Korea-China relations, and that Korea also supports problem-solving through multilateralism, dialogue, and negotiation, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Special Advisor Moon also expressed opposition to all forms of new Cold War rhetoric and mentioned integrating Korea's "New Southern Policy" with China's Belt and Road Initiative (一帶一路: Land and Maritime Silk Road) to promote mutual benefit between Korea and China, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
