[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] #1. Seoul Facilities Corporation needed safety education for construction site workers. While searching for educational materials, they came across a notable video teaching resource. It was a VR material from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), and the safety education proved highly effective.
#2. Kyungpook National University Hospital found it difficult to conduct face-to-face health management for employees due to COVID-19. They discovered stretching videos from KOSHA and posted them on the company intranet, which all employees used well as materials for preventing musculoskeletal disorders.
The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (Chairman Park Doo-yong) has fully opened its public works repository. Many institutions have utilized it, receiving high praise, and it was selected as the Best Institution in the ‘2020 Public Works Open Excellence Awards.’
The Public Works Open Excellence Awards is an event hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to recognize institutions that have made efforts to open and promote the use of public institution works. It targets 1,139 institutions managing public works.
The government encourages free use of public works within the scope of copyright through the ‘Public Nuri’ mark, a free use permission label for public works.
The agency has opened 5,642 safety and health materials under ‘Public Nuri,’ including accident case safety measure videos, VR content, and publications such as industrial safety and health regulations presented in comic form.
Additionally, the materials are linked to the mobile application (Crisis Escape Safety and Health) to allow easy access.
According to KOSHA, due to increased demand for non-face-to-face education amid COVID-19 this year, the use of the mobile application containing the agency’s public works safety and health materials increased 4.7 times compared to the same period last year, and homepage resource room views increased about 1.3 times.
Ko Kwang-jae, Head of the Education and Public Relations Headquarters at KOSHA, said, “We have focused on producing and developing various safety and health materials and building a system to make public works easy to search.”
This effort to enhance the usability of public information by opening works through various platforms received high recognition, earning the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister’s Commendation.
At the awards ceremony held on the 27th at Dongja Art Hall near Seoul Station, the agency’s Public Nuri opening case was presented under the theme ‘The Right for All to Enjoy, Opening Safety.’ It was broadcast live online via the Public Nuri YouTube channel.
Park Doo-yong, Chairman of KOSHA, stated, “Both safety and public works are rights that the public rightfully deserves to enjoy,” adding, “Going forward, the agency will continue to open its public works repository and make safety accessible to the public.”
