Honam University College of Arts Alumni Association Presents Eastern and Western Paintings in Insadong

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Homihui Exhibition, featuring works by alumni of the College of Arts at Honam University, is being held from the 25th of last month until the 1st of next month at the G&J Gwangju-Jeonnam Gallery located in Insadong, Seoul.

Now in its 5th year, the Homihui Exhibition originally separated Oriental and Western paintings for display, but since 2016, it has combined both under the name Homihui (Honam University College of Arts Alumni Association) and has continued the exhibition annually.

The Homihui artists, showcasing everything from traditional paintings to Western-style paintings, go on 7 to 8 outdoor sketching trips each year for the exhibition.

This process involves the rebirth of realistic landscape scenes and the unique personalities of the artists with a modern sensibility.

One artist uses rich colors to vividly evoke the qualities of mid-career and veteran artists who skillfully utilize the ink tones and negative space characteristic of Korean painting.

Western painters also express the vivid colors of seasoned veteran artists through outdoor sketches, helping younger artists to deeply understand and master the beautiful natural Korean mountain landscapes.

At this exhibition, visitors can appreciate works that depict Korean mountain landscapes through outdoor sketches, tailored to the characteristics and emotions of both Oriental and Western painters.

It offers a fantastic collaboration between Oriental and Western paintings, where the Korean painting’s traditional lines and simplicity of color and rich tones contrast yet harmonize with Western paintings’ abstract expression of nature through vibrant colors.
