Hampyeong-gun Selected as an Outstanding Local Government for the National Assembly's 'Suicide Prevention Project'

[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-ik) announced on the 27th that it was selected as an excellent local government for suicide prevention projects by the National Assembly Suicide Prevention Forum.

Hampyeong-gun was evaluated as the top group among cities, counties, and districts with a population of less than 50,000 based on quantified and scored criteria including changes in suicide rates, organization, personnel, budget, and projects.

The county continuously implements various projects in cooperation with Jeollanam-do and the Jeonnam Regional Mental Health Welfare Center to reduce the suicide rate.

They have steadily promoted initiatives such as operating Life-Love Suicide Prevention Villages, distributing pesticide safety storage boxes, designating and managing Life-Love Practice Stores to improve the sales behavior of briquette charcoal, and conducting public awareness campaigns.

Jung Myung-hee, Director of the Health Center, said, “We will cooperate with related local organizations in line with the national goal of reducing the suicide rate by 50% by 2022,” and added, “We will do our best to improve awareness through various resident education and programs for suicide prevention and respect for life.”
