All Middle Schools in Gwangju to Conduct Remote Classes Until the 4th of Next Month

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] As the chain infection of COVID-19 centered around middle schools continues in Gwangju Metropolitan City, all middle schools will conduct remote classes from the 30th of this month until the 4th of next month, the day after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), to ensure a safe exam.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 27th that it made this decision after determining that the risk of infectious disease spread is very high due to confirmed COVID-19 cases at three middle schools in the area.

In particular, 31% of middle school teachers in Gwangju are scheduled to participate as supervisors for the CSAT, making special caution necessary.

For staff members, normal attendance at school will be required from the 30th of this month to the 2nd of next month for three days to conduct remote classes.

On the day after the CSAT, all staff except essential personnel will work from home.

Superintendent Jang Hwi-guk said, “To safely conduct the CSAT, we have decided to switch all middle schools in the Gwangju area to remote classes next week,” and added, “We ask middle school students taking remote classes at home to refrain from visiting crowded facilities after classes to ensure the safety of their senior brothers and sisters in grade 12 taking the CSAT.”
