With the population of pet owners surpassing 10 million, discussions on animal welfare are actively taking place in South Korea, and related laws are being enacted, establishing a culture of pet companionship. The term "Petfamjok," a blend of "Pet" and "Family," is a newly coined word referring to people who emotionally accept their pets as family members. This phenomenon is occurring worldwide, and as social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic has prolonged, the number of people adopting pets has increased, leading to greater demand for related products and services.
Many Petfamjok consider medical infrastructure the most important aspect of the environment in which they live with their pets. Since animals cannot speak, if humans do not recognize their discomfort, they continue to suffer. However, animals often instinctively hide their pain, making it difficult to detect without careful attention. Therefore, professional and reliable information is necessary. Various online communities receive daily posts asking about physical symptoms related to pets, but it is difficult to obtain trustworthy answers.
Recognizing these challenges, premium pet skincare brand Jayupet has been operating an official blog since 2019. Veterinarians involved in product development provide authoritative information on pet health and diseases and share easy methods to care for dogs and cats directly. To date, the Grasmedi official blog has posted over 270 articles covering a wide range of topics, from skin diseases to major illnesses with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, as well as basic pet care knowledge. Up to 1,000 pet owners visit daily, leaving questions in the comments.
Alongside the blog, a YouTube channel featuring veterinarians, medical doctors, and traditional Korean medicine doctors involved in product development has also been launched. The YouTube channel presents the blog’s information in an easier-to-understand video format and shares various episodes experienced through their respective professions.
Kim Mirim, CEO of Grasmedi Co., Ltd., stated, “I realized that the incorrect hearsay information circulating could threaten the safety of our pets, which led us to operate the official blog and YouTube channel to provide accurate knowledge about pet health.” She also added, “Through this process, we hope Jayupet becomes a brand symbolizing safety and trust.”
