"CJ CheilJedang Baeksul Cooking Mix Leads Home Baking Trend with Homemade Snacks"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] As the ‘home meal trend’ spreads this year, the demand for ‘cooking mix’ products, which allow consumers to make snacks themselves, has also continuously increased.

CJ CheilJedang announced on the 27th that the cumulative sales of the ‘Baeksul Cooking Mix’ products until the 4th week of November this year increased by more than 40% compared to the same period last year. ‘Baeksul Cooking Mix’ includes various products such as ‘pancake mix’, ‘hotteok mix’, ‘brownie mix’, and ‘cake mix’, allowing consumers to make snacks themselves.

CJ CheilJedang analyzes that the popularity of ‘cooking mix’ products has grown as more consumers worry about their children’s snack menus and play activities. The trend of home baking among younger generations also played a significant role. In particular, as temperatures recently dropped below freezing, the winter representative snack ‘Baeksul Hotteok Mix’ has been leading the ‘home baking trend’. Sales of ‘Baeksul Hotteok Mix’ in the past two months (October to November) increased by about 20% compared to the same period last year.

In line with this, CJ CheilJedang introduced a limited edition product available only this winter, the ‘Baeksul Injeolmi Hotteok Mix’ (3,580 KRW). This product follows last winter’s limited edition ‘Baeksul Brown Sugar Hotteok Mix’, which reflected the brown sugar craze, targeting consumers with a ‘halmae ipmat’ (grandmother’s taste) who prefer a savory flavor. Containing roasted soybean powder, it allows consumers to make savory and chewy injeolmi-flavored hotteok, and it is packaged in a retro concept to be enjoyed as a nostalgic snack.

CJ CheilJedang expects the cooking mix market to grow to 26 billion KRW this year, a 26% increase from last year. A CJ CheilJedang official said, “While the peak season for ‘Baeksul Cooking Mix’ was usually during children’s vacation seasons, this year it has been steadily growing every month due to the expansion of the ‘home baking trend.’ We plan to continue launching promotions tailored to help not only children but also various age groups enjoy a ‘wise stay-at-home life’ using ‘Baeksul Cooking Mix.’”
