KT Installs 'Nanum Phone' in Convenience Stores

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT and GS Retail have joined hands to launch the 'Nanum Phone' service based on public telephones.

On the 27th, the two companies signed a business agreement for the 'Nanum Phone Joint Project' and decided to install Nanum Phones in convenience stores. Nanum Phone is a public telephone installed in convenience stores that allows free calls to 30 public and welfare services. These include the Integrated Welfare Call Center (129), Government Civil Service Center (110), Civil Complaint Service (120), Consumer Counseling (1372), and Cyber Terrorism Reporting (118). Regular calls are available for a fee.

Starting with the GS25 Banpo Sorae Village store on the 27th, KT and GS Retail will establish Nanum Zones in about 100 GS25 stores in the metropolitan area by February next year. After a pilot operation of the service, they plan to analyze usage effects and customer responses to expand nationwide to all GS25 stores. GS Retail operates about 15,000 GS25 offline stores nationwide.

Lee Sung-hwan, Head of KT 5G/GiGA Business Division (Executive Director), said, "KT, which has been striving for the convenience of national communication, and GS Retail, which has been working for daily convenience, jointly planned the Nanum Phone project. The two companies will continue to work together to carry out activities filled with kindness and warmth." Sung Chan-gan, Head of GS Retail MD Division (Executive Director), said, "As part of protecting socially vulnerable groups and promoting public interest, we have partnered with KT to promote this Nanum Phone joint project. GS Retail will do its best to practice social responsibility management by building a social safety net through its nationwide 15,000 offline platforms."
