Jeon Nam Provincial Assembly Member Shin Minho Questions 'Job Policy Budget Cuts'

Jeon Nam Provincial Assembly Member Shin Minho Questions 'Job Policy Budget Cuts' Shin Min-ho, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Shin Min-ho, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member (Democratic Party, Suncheon 6), pointed out that the budget for the Job Policy Headquarters was reduced by 19.0% compared to the previous year, urging that the budget be allocated appropriately to lay the foundation for creating quality jobs.

According to Statistics Korea data submitted by Assemblyman Shin Min-ho on the 26th, the wage worker job growth rate in the second quarter of this year was the lowest since the related statistics began in the first quarter of 2018, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In particular, jobs in the manufacturing sector and among young people in their 20s and 30s decreased. It was found that jobs for those in their 20s and 30s decreased by 160,000 in the second quarter.

Assemblyman Shin Min-ho pointed out during the review of next year’s Job Policy Headquarters budget proposal that “job policies for the youth, who are directly hit by COVID-19, are urgent.”

He added, “The budgets for job projects such as regional industry-tailored job creation support, youth job-seeking activity allowances, and region-led youth jobs have significantly decreased compared to the previous year,” and argued, “To address the youth issues facing an employment crisis and to create quality jobs, the budget must be allocated appropriately.”

Furthermore, he stated, “Although the employment rate reached 63.4%, ranking second nationwide (excluding Jeju), and the unemployment rate was the lowest nationwide at 2.6%, the per capita income is the lowest in the country,” emphasizing again, “We need policy improvements that do not merely focus on employment indicators but can practically impact the quality of life of the residents.”
