[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 26th, Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, evaluated that it seems difficult for Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol to win against Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae, who filed disciplinary charges and issued a suspension order against him.
On the same day, he posted an article titled "Why Yoon Seok-yeol Cannot Defeat Chu Mi-ae" on his Facebook. He began by saying, "It is said that reform is more difficult than revolution. When a scalpel is brought to the prosecution, which has enjoyed absolute monopolistic power for 70 years, it instinctively resists. However, prosecution reform seems ultimately destined to succeed."
He continued, "Justice Minister Chu held the handle of the sword of prosecution reform's justification, and Prosecutor General Yoon held the blade. This fight is ultimately going to be won by Minister Chu. The various charges revealed in the Ministry of Justice's inspection results against Prosecutor General Yoon are shocking," he said.
He pointed out, "According to the Ministry of Justice's inspection report, the charges against Prosecutor General Yoon are not only very specific but also extensive in content. In particular, the illegal surveillance allegations against court judges are shocking not only to the judges but also to the public."
Jeong predicted, "Prosecutor General Yoon will respond by assembling a formidable legal team for his defense, but it does not seem likely he will win. Besides the publicly disclosed charges, there are probably considerable undisclosed contents as well."

He added, "In my view, each of the announced details is so specific that it seems difficult for Prosecutor General Yoon to defeat Minister Chu," and questioned, "Even former presidents are imprisoned. How could the Prosecutor General escape the law?"
Furthermore, Jeong stated, "The Republic of Korea is a country governed by the rule of law. It is a country where even the sitting president can be impeached and imprisoned according to the law," and asserted, "All people are equal before the law. Yoon Seok-yeol is no exception. Chu Mi-ae will win."
Earlier, on the 24th, Minister Chu excluded Prosecutor General Yoon from his duties and filed disciplinary charges. This is the first suspension order against a sitting Prosecutor General in constitutional history.
The main allegations Minister Chu raised against Prosecutor General Yoon include ▲inappropriate contact with media company owners ▲illegal surveillance of trial panels in major cases such as former Minister Cho Kuk's case ▲information trading related to inspections with the media ▲violation of cooperation obligations and obstruction of inspection during the face-to-face investigation with the Prosecutor General ▲damage to the dignity and trust of the Prosecutor General regarding political neutrality.
Meanwhile, on the 26th, Minister Chu instructed to notify Prosecutor General Yoon and his lawyers to appear at the disciplinary review committee scheduled for the 2nd of next month, in accordance with the Prosecutor Disciplinary Act.
