186 Overseas Diplomatic Chiefs Video Conference... Exploring 'Post-Corona' Response Measures

From the 30th to the 2nd of next month, a three-day event under the theme "A Bright Future Opened Together with the People in the Post-Corona Era"
One-on-one video consultations with entrepreneurs will also be held

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Overseas Mission Chiefs Meeting, attended by the heads of 86 overseas missions, will be held in the form of a video conference from the 30th of this month to the 2nd of next month, considering the situation of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


This meeting, under the theme "A Bright Future Opened Together with the People in the Post-COVID Era," will discuss key topics related to the economy and people's livelihood, such as {$_국민체감형 경제외교 and strengthening the protection of overseas Koreans. It will focus on current COVID-19 circumstances and post-COVID era response measures through one-on-one video consultations with businesspeople and expert invitation dialogues.


The meeting will maximize the advantages of non-face-to-face video conferencing by inviting experts from various fields and the general public, promoting a more inclusive and interactive communication event. During the opening ceremony, video messages from President Moon Jae-in and National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seug will be delivered in accordance with the video conference format.


In the dialogue session with ministers held at 9 p.m., policy directions will be shared and opinions from missions collected to efficiently promote "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' innovation and strengthening of overseas mission functions in line with changes in the diplomatic environment after COVID-19."


In the expert invitation dialogue, Professor Kim Sang-bae from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University and semiconductor specialist analyst Lee Seung-woo, director at Eugene Securities, will discuss the prospects of US-China technological competition following the inauguration of the new US administration and Korea's response.


This meeting aims to be an inclusive event involving the public, and in the thematic discussion sessions, various forms of meetings will be held to further expand contact points with the people. One-on-one video consultations with businesspeople will be held together with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Korea International Trade Association, Federation of Korean Industries, Korea Federation of SMEs, and Korea Small Business Association to seek solutions to various difficulties faced by Korean companies amid the COVID-19 situation.


An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This year's Overseas Mission Chiefs Meeting is expected to be a useful opportunity to enhance the understanding of mission chiefs regarding the Moon Jae-in administration's national philosophy and diplomatic policy directions, while maximizing the advantages of non-face-to-face video conferencing to promote a more innovative and inclusive event, thereby exploring new communication methods between the government and the people in the post-COVID-19 era."
