[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] POSCO Engineering & Construction announced on the 26th that it is securing high-quality local manpower by operating job training centers linked to recruitment at sites in developing countries such as Bangladesh.
Since September, POSCO Engineering & Construction has conducted two rounds of construction skilled worker training in the Matabari area of Bangladesh, where a power plant project is located, producing 86 graduates, and is currently training 54 people in the third round.
Among the 44 graduates of the first round, 21 top performers were locally hired, and it plans to recruit a total of 60 out of approximately 130 graduates.
The job training center offers a 4-week course covering basic Korean language, masonry, plastering, carpentry, rebar work, and electrical subjects. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the training is conducted online in a non-face-to-face format.
The Matabari power plant, where POSCO Engineering & Construction is carrying out the project, will require about 3,000 skilled workers over the next three years, but securing local manpower is very difficult.
Since 2013, POSCO Engineering & Construction has operated construction skill job training centers at project sites in Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, and other countries, providing educational opportunities to over 300 people so far.
