[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, pointed out that the government's speculative suppression measures and tax increases play a promotional role in raising real estate prices.
On the morning of the 26th, at the Emergency Committee meeting held at the National Assembly, Chairman Kim said, "The government should clearly distinguish between what can and cannot be done regarding real estate policies, and correct the direction so that the public does not experience confusion due to government real estate measures."
He said, "The government says it is difficult to control jeonse and monthly rent prices because interest rates are low and money is abundant, leading those with money to invest in assets to secure the value of their money," adding, "Moreover, the government overlooks the fact that by continuously raising taxes through speculative suppression methods, it plays a promotional role in further increasing prices."
Last week, Chairman Kim visited the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town model house to point out problems with the current government's real estate policies, and on the afternoon of the same day, he visited the Seoul branch of the Housing Lease Dispute Mediation Committee located in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to assess the impact of the three lease laws on the housing market.
He also expressed doubts about K-Quarantine. He said, "The government emphasized that K-Quarantine is a global model case in many aspects, but seeing the recent increase in confirmed cases, one cannot help but doubt whether our quarantine measures were perfect," and pointed out, "It would be wise to abandon the idea of politically exploiting the COVID-19 situation and delegate the management of the COVID-19 crisis to the Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency."
