Hyundai Rotem Wins Order for Korean Urban Rail Transit Signal System... Worth 9.6 Billion KRW

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Rotem announced on the 26th that it has won the contract for the 'Korean Urban Railway Signal System (KTCS-M) Ilsan Line Pilot Project Section 2 (Daehwa Station~Jeongbalsan Station)' ordered by Korea Railroad Corporation (hereinafter Korail). The project scale is approximately 9.6 billion KRW.

This project aims to verify the stability and compatibility of the KTCS-M technology developed as a national R&D task and to commercialize the technology. Scheduled to be completed by 2022, this project will be pilot-applied to the 6.6 km section from Daehwa to Baekseok on the Ilsan Line.

Hyundai Rotem plans to install KTCS-M signal devices on the tracks and trains and modify one train set of Seoul Subway Line 3 to enable unmanned operation in all environments from departure to stopping.

The government plans to verify the performance of KTCS-M through this project and expand its application to the entire Ilsan Line, Bundang Line, Gwacheon Line, and other existing lines, as well as apply the related technology to new lines such as Busan Line 5.

The KTCS-M signal system market size is expected to reach about 550 billion KRW by 2024, and Hyundai Rotem's strategy is to expand its signal system business based on the commercialization achievements and experience gained through this Ilsan Line pilot project.

A Hyundai Rotem official said, "The Korean Urban Railway Signal System Ilsan Line pilot project we won this time is an achievement that expanded our business not only in railway vehicle sales but also in the signal system field," adding, "We will do our best to secure additional orders in the global market based on the commercialization achievements of the developed signal system."
