Producing Children's Safety Empathy Maps Based on Parent Community Mapping Supporters' Activities by Next Month...Distributing Safety Empathy Map Production Education Manuals and Leaflets to 37 Elementary and Middle Schools and Care Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is promoting the ‘Children’s Safety Empathy Project’ to create a safe daily life for children.
This project was prepared to create a safe environment for children through the sharing of information on local safety, social culture, and issues by direct participation of parents and students through public-private-academic cooperation.
The Children’s Safety Empathy Project will be carried out through ▲Children’s Safety Empathy Map via parent community mapping ▲Safety Empathy Map production education manual ▲Production of safety education leaflets.
First, last year, the district operated the ‘Dongjak-gu Safety Map Community Mapping Supporters’ for the first time to create an online crime prevention safety map, and this year, it will be expanded to a Children’s Safety Empathy Map following the selection of the Dongjak cooperative governance development project.
Since April, the district has built a community mapping website and formed about 15 parent community supporters to carry out ▲identification of crime-vulnerable areas and children’s fear factors around school routes ▲online registration of on-site photos and details of safety-vulnerable areas ▲interviews with parents and students until next month.
Based on the activities of community supporters registered on the community website, the district will produce the Children’s Safety Empathy Map by December.
Also, by next month, the district will distribute the safety empathy map production education manual and safety education leaflets to 37 elementary and middle schools and childcare institutions in the area.
The education manual is structured in stages for teachers, parents, and local residents to educate children on producing the safety empathy map, including ▲preliminary survey methods ▲safety empathy map production education ▲field survey and presentation ▲map utilization methods.
Additionally, for adults guiding the process, it includes ▲concept of the safety empathy map ▲examples of safety map production ▲checkpoints during the production process.
Furthermore, the safety education leaflets distributed to children visualize safety information using infographics for easy and quick understanding.
They contain information on ▲the safety empathy map production process ▲daily risk factors ▲children’s safety in Dongjak-gu ▲Dongjak-gu’s safety specialized projects.
The district plans to have children refer to the education manual to directly identify the locations and details of dangerous (or safe) places and produce printable safety empathy maps for posting in classrooms and homes.
Lee Eui-shin, Director of Urban Planning, said, “I hope this project will help make Dongjak a safe place for children,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a safe environment through public design.”
