CJ Olive Young "Reviews Surpass 6.1 Million... Securing 10 Million Review Data by 2021"


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CJ Olive Young is set to secure big data of 10 million reviews for cosmetics.


CJ Olive Young announced on the 26th that the cumulative number of reviews on its official online mall surpassed 6.1 million as of the 25th, setting a new record for the highest number of reviews in the beauty industry.


Since user reviews play a crucial role in the purchasing decision stage, CJ Olive Young aims to strengthen both the quantity and quality of reviews to secure 10 million reviews by 2021.


The key to CJ Olive Young’s overwhelming number of reviews lies in the synergy created by linking online and offline channels (O2O). In January, CJ Olive Young introduced an integrated review service that shares reviews of products purchased at offline stores on the online mall.


Within 10 months after integration, the cumulative number of reviews surged about tenfold. With over 500,000 user reviews accumulating monthly on average, this shows a rapid growth trend. Recently, based on O2O synergy, a new ‘Store Staff Recommended Reviews’ service based on user location information was introduced.


Continuous service improvements aimed at qualitative growth of reviews also contributed to the increase in review numbers. In July, CJ Olive Young introduced a ‘Review Blind System’ to block fake reviews and enhance customer trust.


Additionally, actual purchasing customers known as 'Top (Excellent) Reviewers' deliver vivid real-use reviews based on skin type, tone, and various beauty concerns through YouTube content called ‘The Dignity of Reviews,’ introducing recommended products.


CJ Olive Young plans to continue maximizing voluntary communication between reviewers and customers and to strengthen the online mall review service so that credible information can be actively exchanged through reviews.


A CJ Olive Young official stated, “The achievement of securing over 6 million product reviews was the result of maximizing synergy between Olive Young’s online and offline channels,” adding, “With the goal of securing 10 million reviews in 2021, we will firmly establish ourselves as Korea’s leading beauty information platform beyond just a commerce platform.”
