Listening to Residents' Complaints On-site... Yangcheon-gu Holds Local Mobile Ombudsman Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) will hold a ‘Local Mobile Civil Complaint Center’ on December 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Yangcheon Hall on the 3rd floor of Yangcheon-gu Office, together with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, to listen to residents' grievances, various opinions, suggestions, and system improvements on site.

The ‘Local Mobile Civil Complaint Center’ is a communication channel for the public, organized by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, which visits urban areas with high civil complaint demand to handle citizens' grievances directly and collect various local opinions and suggestions to reflect the voices from the field in national policies.

This mobile complaint center will involve residents of Yangcheon-gu and nearby southwestern districts including Gangseo, Guro, Yeongdeungpo, Geumcheon-gu, and Gwangmyeong City, providing consultations in 15 fields including administration, daily life law, social welfare, labor, and consumer damage.

The consultation team will be composed of experts from related organizations such as investigators from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Consumer Agency, Korea Legal Aid Corporation, Small Enterprise and Market Service, Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, and Korea National Council on Social Welfare to listen to local residents' opinions.

For more in-depth consultation and resolution of complaints, the service will operate by appointment. Residents who wish to receive consultation should visit their nearby community service center by December 4 to fill out a consultation reservation form, apply in advance, and then visit Yangcheon-gu Office on December 17 for the consultation.

In addition, Yangcheon-gu operates an Ombudsman to reflect various opinions of residents in district administration. The Ombudsman protects residents' rights against illegal or unfair administrative acts and finds compromises within the legal framework as a civil complaint investigator. In March last year, the Ombudsman ordinance was enacted, and three members who are active in the audit field or practicing lawyers were appointed as Ombudsmen.

Anyone who has suffered damage due to illegal, unfair, or unreasonable administrative dispositions or systems by Yangcheon-gu or its subordinate administrative agencies can apply for Ombudsman grievance consultation. Applications can be made by visiting the Ombudsman Office on the 3rd floor of Yangcheon-gu Office every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
