SBS reported that on the 23rd, in the underground parking lot of a large shopping mall in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, a man in his 40s, Mr. A, wielded a weapon against a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, whom he did not know.
According to the report, just as Ms. B was starting her car and preparing to leave, Mr. A opened the rear door, got into the vehicle, threatened Ms. B, and stabbed her in the abdomen with a weapon.
In an interview with SBS, Ms. B recounted the situation: "I was about to start the car and leave when a stranger got into the back seat. I immediately asked, 'Who are you?' Our eyes met, and there was about a two-second silence. Suddenly, he grabbed my head and neck."
Ms. B got out of the car and ran quickly toward the escalator, where she received help from security personnel and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Fortunately, her life is not in danger.
She said, "I kept struggling to get out of the car," and added, "I wondered if he held a grudge against me, but no matter how I looked at it, he was a complete stranger."
Mr. A, who fled immediately after the crime, was found dead in a mountain in Icheon on the afternoon of the 24th, the day after the incident. The police believe he took his own life. It was also reported that Mr. A had previously served prison time for a special robbery.
