Ha Hyun-hoe, Vice Chairman and CEO of LG Uplus, who is retiring after his term, stated in his final CEO message posted on the company bulletin board on the 25th, "The past 30 months have been the most blessed and honorable time in my life and business journey."
Ha said, "The number of mobile subscribers surpassed 16 million, and through the acquisition of LG HelloVision in paid broadcasting, we rose to become the second-largest operator," adding, "As the first telecom company to export 5G content, we firmly established ourselves as a leading 5G operator to global businesses."
He mentioned, "On the other hand, as a CEO who must bear infinite responsibility for the business amid fierce market competition, it is true that I have run forward without a single day of peace of mind, 365 days a year," and added, "I feel very reassured that Hwang Hyun-sik will join you as the new CEO succeeding me."
Ha introduced Hwang Hyun-sik, who will lead LG Uplus as the new CEO, as "not only a businessman with outstanding business capabilities and passion but also an excellent leader who is trusted and respected, and a comrade who has worked together in LG Group’s business field for a long time." He also urged, "Please create an LG Uplus that leading global companies want to emulate and learn from together with the new CEO."
He evaluated, "Currently, the telecommunications business is facing changes called digital transformation and the turbulent post-COVID-19 era. This is both a great opportunity and a crisis for LG Uplus." He continued, "To navigate this period of upheaval well, each person should lead change and innovation in their respective areas and burn all their passion with the goal of becoming number one," emphasizing, "LG Uplus is a company with tremendous growth potential."
Ha is a true LG man who joined LG Group in 1985 through the group’s open recruitment and has been with LG Group for 36 years. Having served as CEO and Vice Chairman of LG Electronics, he was appointed CEO of LG Uplus in July 2017, gaining attention as a ‘businessman’ and ‘strategist’ who enhanced global competitiveness in every business he was in across LG Group’s core affiliates.
In particular, he is recognized for leading LG Uplus’s change and innovation in the fiercely competitive telecommunications market based on his experience creating synergy among affiliates at LG Corp. and his deep understanding of changes in the telecommunications industry.
Ha said, "These days, I truly feel ‘this is what happiness is.’ From my first business life to retirement, I have spent my entire life journey with LG Group. I will watch closely and cheer vigorously as LG Uplus establishes itself as a true number one company."
LG Uplus announced that it held a board meeting this afternoon and recommended Hwang Hyun-sik, Head of Consumer Business, as the new CEO. Hwang, appointed as CEO, is expected to be officially appointed as CEO after next year’s board meeting and shareholders’ meeting procedures.
