[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the 25th, Lee Jae-gap, Minister of Employment and Labor, conducted patrol inspections at small and medium-sized construction sites located in Daejeon and Sejong City.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor encourages voluntary safety measures through unannounced patrol inspections at construction sites and strictly takes legal action against sites with insufficient improvements after inspections.
The inspected sites this time were small and medium-sized sites with construction costs under 10 billion KRW and lower construction rankings, where structural work and exterior finishing work with risks of fall accidents were underway.
Minister Lee toured five construction sites, broadcasting announcements to prevent fall accidents such as installing safety railings and wearing safety helmets. Afterwards, unannounced patrol inspections focused on risk factors for fatal accidents at the construction sites were conducted.
At the new construction site of an educational research facility in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, workers were urged to always wear protective equipment such as safety helmets and safety harnesses while working.
At the new middle school construction site in Sejong City, the scaffolding installed for exterior finishing work was checked to ensure that work platforms and other components were securely installed.
Minister Lee said, "Falls at small and medium-sized construction sites are accidents that can be prevented with just a little attention, so close site management is very important."
He added, "The government will continue to thoroughly inspect sites through patrol inspections," and stated, "We will promote site-focused management and supervision by expanding patrol cars for strengthened patrols, establishing information systems, and enhancing cooperation with local governments on safety management."
He also requested, "Since reducing fatal accidents cannot be achieved by government efforts alone, everyone at the sites should join together with one mind in safety management."
