[Asia Economy Reporter Suwan Kim] Lee Sujin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and former judge, advocated for judicial reform on the 25th, stating, "We must rekindle the flame of judicial reform in light of the suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's duties."
On the same day, Lee posted on her Facebook under the title "Prosecutorial Reform and Judicial Reform Are Two Sides of the Same Coin," saying, "The misconduct allegations that Prosecutor General Yoon, who was suspended from duty, even surveilled the trial panel of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk are shocking."
Lee said, "While the surveillance of judges is problematic, the bigger issue is that the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Yang Sung-tae compiled a 'problematic judges' list to investigate judges' tendencies," pointing out, "This clearly shows that the corrupt prosecutorial forces and the judicial scandal factions are two sides of the same coin."
She continued, "If information obtained through investigations was used for purposes other than investigation and prosecution maintenance, especially for surveilling trial panels, it could constitute abuse of authority," and argued, "Prosecutor General Yoon should be subject to investigation beyond suspension from duty based on the surveillance allegations alone."
She added, "The allegations against Prosecutor General Yoon confirm the urgent need for 'judicial reform' and the swift impeachment of the 'judicial scandal factions,'" criticizing, "Because the corrupt prosecutors and judicial scandal factions were in cahoots and were like soul twins."
Lee also emphasized the necessity of judicial reform. She said, "Reforming the prosecution and reforming the judiciary must proceed together," adding, "We must rekindle the flame of judicial reform in light of the suspension of Prosecutor General Yoon's duties. The time for the National Assembly is approaching."
