Joo Ho-young: "A State Audit Should Be Conducted on Chu Mi-ae, Not Yoon Seok-yeol"

[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kim Hye-min] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, rebutted Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who called for a parliamentary investigation into Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "A parliamentary investigation into Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae should be promptly conducted."

At an emergency press briefing held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 25th, Floor Leader Joo said, "Lee's call for a parliamentary investigation brings to mind the proverb 'The one who farted gets angry'."

He added, "Regarding Lee's mention of a parliamentary investigation, I strongly urge the Democratic Party to also demand the parliamentary investigations into the Wolsong Unit 1 nuclear reactor, which the opposition has persistently requested, and the illegal support in the Ulsan mayoral election on this occasion," emphasizing, "Since this matter sufficiently involves Minister Chu's abuse of power, overreach, and unconstitutionality, a parliamentary investigation into Minister Chu should be promptly conducted."

Kim Jong-in, emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, also pointed out, "Looking at the matter related to the suspension of duties, I have doubts as to whether it truly corresponds to the suspension of the Prosecutor General's duties," and criticized, "The Moon administration's initial goal was prosecutorial reform, but it is impossible to grasp the fundamental direction of prosecutorial reform."

Chairman Kim said, "Watching the process of the Prosecutor General's suspension yesterday, it appears that the elected power is unable to exercise restraint and is destroying the basic order of democracy," adding, "I also do not understand the Democratic Party's attitude toward this issue. Just because the Democratic Party holds a large number of seats in the National Assembly, should it play a role that disrupts democratic order through the tyranny of the majority?"

He further stated, "Regarding this issue, I want to ask what role the president, as the appointing authority, is playing," and criticized, "It is said that Minister Chu reported to the president in advance before suspending duties, but if such a situation warrants suspension, the president, as the appointing authority, could also dismiss the Prosecutor General. How did this situation arise to make the country look ridiculous and complicated?"
