[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Six additional colleagues working on the same floor as a Samsung Electronics employee who tested positive for COVID-19 have also tested positive.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 25th, four employees from the Wireless Business Division working in the R5 building at the Suwon campus recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, after Wireless Business Division employee A was first confirmed positive for COVID-19 on the 22nd, about 300 employees who had close contact with A on the same floor of the R5 building underwent COVID-19 testing.

Subsequently, two colleagues tested positive on the 24th, and including A and the four who tested positive that day, a total of seven employees working on the relevant floor of the R5 building have been infected with COVID-19. Most of the remaining employees reportedly tested negative.

The detailed infection routes of these individuals are currently under investigation by health authorities. Samsung Electronics has instructed employees working on the affected floor to work from home for two weeks as a precautionary measure.

The R5 building was closed for one day on the 23rd for disinfection and has been reopened since the day before. The floor of the R5 building where the COVID-19 positive employees worked will remain closed until the 25th.

Meanwhile, on another floor of the R5 building at Samsung Electronics' Suwon campus, one employee tested positive for COVID-19 on the 18th of this month. However, there have been no additional confirmed cases among employees working on the same floor.
